Avalon A4 Water Cooler

Avalon A4 Water Cooler A4BLWTRCLR Review

Are you looking for a new (or another) water dispenser – aka water cooler – for your office or place of business? The Avalon A4 Water Dispenser is an extremely popular machine that could be just what you need.

It’s best to call this Avalon machine a dispenser because it does more than just cool your water for you – despite the fact that Avalon seems to think of it as a cooler, as evidenced by the last six letters in the model name – WTRCLR. Let’s take a look at what it offers, so you can see if it really is the water “cooler” you really want.

If you’re in a hurry and just want to check the pricing and availability of the Avalon dispenser at Amazon, you can click the link just below. Otherwise, keep scrolling and reading to get all the details.

The Avalon A4 is basically black over stainless steel as you look at it from the front. It measures 41 inches tall and has a nearly square footprint at 13 by 12 inches. The entire unit (empty) weighs about 42 pounds.

If those specifications describe a machine that would fit into the area you have planned for it, then read on to see what you get inside. If not, you might want to check on other Avalon models like the counter top B8 cooler instead.

Probably the main reason to choose the A4 model is that it gives you water at a choice of 3 temperatures – cold (down to 47 degrees), room temperature, and hot (up to 185 degrees). So whether you want cold water for iced tea, hot water for coffee or hot tea, or just a plain ol’ drink of water, the Avalon A4 has you covered.

You do have to prepare a bit before using the machine for the first time. There’s a little assembly required, but it’s nothing difficult. You also have to buy a bottle of water – either 3 gallon or 5 gallon size – and install it within the bottom section of the machine.

Now might be a good time to check out this setup and troubleshooting video of the A4 created by Avalon.

Additional Features of the Avalon A4

Safety features include a child safety lock and the fact that the high-contact areas have been treated with BioGuard anti-microbial coating to keep them as germ-free as possible.

Avalon A4

There’s a night light should you ever need to dispense some water without turning on the room light, though  honestly I can’t see this as a need within a business environment. Even though this model isn’t really made for the home, I suppose the light could be of some use there.

The water dispensing area measure 12 inches wide by 3 inches deep by 10 inches high (9 inches below the spouts). This should be plenty of room to accommodate any cup, glass, or mug you want to use to hold your drink.

When your bottle is empty or nearly so, a light will turn on warning you that you’re going to need to replace the water supply very soon. You might want to have a second bottle always on hand, so you don’t have to rush out to get a new one unexpectedly.

Note that the Avalon A4 is not a self-cleaning model, but Avalon does make such machines. Both the A3 and this A6 model are self-cleaning. Of course, you’ll have to pay a bit more for this extra feature.

I saw conflicting reports about the length of the warranty of this Avalon dispenser. It’s either 1 or 2 years. If this is a significant item for you, I suggest contacting the manufacturer to see what their current policy really is.

Conclusions about the Avalon A4BLWTRCLR

You can see thousands of satisfied users of the Avalon A4 in the reviews posted online. But you’ll also see hundreds who aren’t all that keen on this machine.

The more common problems seem to be that the water pump broke much sooner than expected, that there are leaks, that the buttons are hard to press, and that the motor is too noisy.

The pump problem is one you can’t really do much about other than hope yours lasts longer. Leaks are often caused by user error. (Review the troubleshooting video above.)

That the buttons are hard to press is really a personal preference kind of thing. What may be “hard” for you might not seem difficult to me.

The motor does seem to be louder than some, but if it’s in your office, does it really matter that much? If it does, perhaps you need to look for a quieter machine.
